Year 5

Spring 2020

Year 5 had a fantastic start to Spring Term. The children were learning all about Earth & Space. Towards the end of the first half term their entries for the Young Writers competition were sent off. Every child in the class has been selected to have their Space Poem published in the book - congratulations Year 5! We will have a class copy so all the children can see their published work.

At the beginning of this half term we moved classrooms. With access outdoors and windows, the children planted some seeds to start growing beans, tomatoes, strawberries and sunflowers. This half term the children were learning about North & South America and began the topic by learning about the Amazon rainforest. This linked to the books we read in class - 'Journey to the River Sea' and 'The Explorer'. In Literacy the children were learning how to develop their descriptive writing. In Maths, the children began learning about fractions. The children have learnt how to compare, order, simplify, find the equivalent, add and subtract fractions.

The home learning packs provided (in the blue folders) should revisit the learning that we have worked on this half term. There are also activities which have been set on MyMaths. For additional activities please see the documents below and check your emails and school Facebook page.
