Spring 2020
Year 1 had a fantastic start to the Spring term and have been reading the stories âThe Lighthouse Keeperâ.
In English, the children have written their own stories independently as well as with small groups and have also predicted what might happen in some of the Lighthouse stories. We have written our own books of the Lighthouse Keeperâs picnic which includes a front cover and these are available for you to read in our classroom. We have continued to do our weekly book buddy sessions with Year 6 which we have thoroughly enjoyed. We have read narratives, fiction and non-fiction texts. We canât wait to continue this over the coming months.

We have enjoyed a trip to the Recycling Centre where we learnt about the different ways Jersey recycles and what we can recycle. We even took our own pieces of paper, cardboard, glass, metal and batteries to put in to the designated recycling bins. We will also feature in the Jersey Evening Post where we spoke to a journalist about the importance of recycling from a young age.

In maths, we have been developing our knowledge of addition and subtraction within word problems and learning to us positional language. We have worked with Year 4 to create maps for our Bee-Bots to travel and have written down directions to get to and from different areas on our maps.
We had a fantastic World Book Day as well as celebrating the schoolâs âWitches and Wizardsâ book week. We did a variety of different activities including writing a friendship potion, drawing and writing a character description and listening to many different stories.

The home learning packs provided (in the clear folders) revisit the learning we have made so far this year. There will also be different MyMaths activities set each week. I have also created a weekly overview with different activities you can do. I will also be using the app âSeesawâ in the coming weeks with additional information and activities on.
