At St Mary’s School our Core Values and our ethos is built around respecting the rights of children, and teaching them to have rights respecting behaviour, so that all children can feel safe, secure and ready to learn.
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child outline these rights and Jersey signed up to the convention in 2014.
Some adults can feel concerned that children might just be learning about their rights and not their responsibilities, and we are very keen to make sure that children learn that, for everyone to enjoy their rights, everyone has to be responsible and behave in such a way that they respect one another and their rights.
Children’s rights and their developing responsibility forms a part of our topic teaching, and is a key part of our Personal, Social and Health Education scheme – Jigsaw
We have achieved our Bronze award and we are now working towards our Silver award.
