Our Vision and Values

Our core purpose statement:

At St Mary’s School we aim to celebrate every child as an individual, and nurture them so that they are kind, confident and resilient and able to thrive in the world we live in. We aim to provide inspiring learning and life experiences that enrich childhood, so that our children achieve well, and are balanced, enthusiastic, and responsible individuals who make a positive difference in the communities in which they live.

At St Mary’s School our core values underpin everything we do. We believe that all children have the right to be valued as an individual and to high quality learning which challenge, motivate, inspire and support children so that they can become the best they can be. Our children are at the heart of everything we do, and we ensure that everyone has a safe and secure environment in which to flourish. We give the children the tools to grow into mature, confident and responsible members of our community, through a supportive, inclusive and creative learning environment which focuses on the needs of all learners in the school. We care and listen to each other, our children, our families and our wider community. We work together to ensure everyone succeeds. We are proud to be a part of the St Mary’s Team, and we want everyone to share this.

We do this by:

  • Nurturing and developing every child, and appreciating them for who they are.
  • Focusing on high quality teaching and ensuring our children make excellent progress. Our expectations are high for all children, and we do everything we can to ensure these expectations are met.
  • Offering a broad and balanced curriculum, including making our curriculum real and relevant by using our island and local community as a learning resource.
  • Ensuring that every decision we make is with the best interests of the children in mind, and we ensure that the children’s voices are heard.
  • Welcoming and encouraging parent partnership.
  • Having a strong focus on the well-being of children and staff.
  • Working together as a team.
