St Mary's School is registered to take part in the UK Eco-Schools programme. This promotes environmental awareness within schools and links to many curriculum areas. It encourages pupils to take responsibility for the environmental management of their school.
By joining the Eco-Schools programme we are able to win awards for the work we do in and around our environment. The awards are Bronze,Silver and Gold.
We have already achieved our Bronze award and are working towards Silver status.
Last year we set up an Eco - Committtee which involves pupils from KS2. Each representative has been given a badge to wear so that they are easy to identify in school. Their job is to keep the rest of the school up to date with what is happening. some children have also been going into KS1 classes to inform them of what the club have been doing and also about what they can do in school to support the environment. They will also listen to any ideas the children may have as to what we could or should do to help improve our school environment. These will be brought up at future meetings.
At Christmas children from Year 4 created Eco themed Christmas decorations and members of the Eco Committee decorated a tree which was then displayed at St Peter's Church.
